Water damage restoration usually happens in three stages. Mitigation comes first. This is where the source of water gets shut off and the excess moisture gets pulled out before it spreads any further.

Remediation comes next, and this is the cleaning and drying phase, which matters a lot in our humid Sacramento summers when mold can take hold quickly.

Finally, restoration is the last stretch, where your home actually gets repaired and rebuilt, including any flooring that needs replacing.

Put together, these three stages make up the full water damage restoration process, and skipping a step (or rushing one) is usually what leads to bigger problems down the line.

If you want the full picture of what we offer beyond restoration, our services page covers everything from installation to design help.

A few quick moves can make a real difference in how your water damage restoration turns out:

1. Don't wait around. The longer water sits on your floors, the more damage it does, especially to hardwood.
2. Stay away from electrical appliances or outlets in any wet area.
3. Call a team that specializes in water damage restoration as soon as you can, ideally one who also knows flooring, and consider a free in-home measurement once you know what needs replacing.

We've spent over 30 years installing and repairing flooring across the Greater Sacramento area, and that experience puts us in a unique spot when it comes to water damage restoration. Instead of juggling a general contractor and a separate flooring company, you get one team who understands exactly how water affects hardwood, luxury vinyl, carpet, and everything in between.

If your hardwood survived but needs a refresh once things dry out, our hardwood floor sanding and refinishing team can help it look brand new again.

Choosing a flooring company for water damage restoration has real advantages over a generic insurance-recommended contractor. We know how each flooring material dries, what can be saved, and what needs to be replaced. That means fewer surprises later, like mold hiding under a subfloor, and floors that actually look right once the work is done. If your project involves a garage or workspace, note that we also handle epoxy flooring, a common choice for areas prone to moisture.

Once your new flooring is in, our design services team can help you pick finishes that match the rest of your home, so the room you had to rebuild ends up looking better than before.

We also work with property managers and businesses through our commercial flooring services when water damage hits a leased space.

Classes of Water Damage

Understanding the classes of water damage can help determine the appropriate response:

1. Class 1: Involves minimal water damage, affecting only part of a room.
2. Class 2: Affects an entire room, including walls and carpets.
3. Class 3: Originates from overhead sources, soaking ceilings and walls.
4. Class 4: Involves specialty drying techniques for materials like hardwood and plaster.

A typical water damage restoration project moves through these steps:

1. Assessment: A professional evaluates the damage and builds a plan.
2. Water Removal: Getting the water out fast matters most here.
3. Drying and Dehumidification: Proper drying keeps mold from taking hold.
4. Cleaning and Sanitizing: Affected areas get cleaned of contaminants and odors.
5. Restoration: Repairs and rebuilding happen, including flooring installation where needed.

How Long Does Water Damage Restoration Take?

Timelines depend on how bad the damage is and how big the affected area is. Water removal and initial mitigation usually take a few hours to a couple of days. Drying and dehumidifying typically runs three to five days, and remediation adds another few days on top of that.

The restoration phase, meaning repairs and rebuilding, can take anywhere from a week to several weeks depending on how much work is needed. In general, homeowners in the Sacramento Metro Area should expect the full water damage restoration process to take somewhere between one week and several weeks.

Staying engaged with both your insurance company and your restoration team can speed things up quite a bit. The faster you respond, the faster your home gets back to normal.

Sometimes the damage is too extensive to fully reverse. In these cases, you may need to replace flooring, drywall, or insulation altogether. A professional assessment is the best way to figure out what can be saved and what can't.
